I’m not technical is $CULTUR for me?

Yes! A mix of artists, engineers, designers, writers, students, gamers are all desirable contributors for building amazing projects—all the AI engineers in the world won’t breathe life into an AI person-- people who care for that person will.

If you are already part way in the Web3 metaverse but want to learn more, this is the place to do it—a generous community of people who want to help young folks and people new to the journey to get involved.

To gain access to richer conversations either hold an NFT created by one of The Culture DAO projects or hold at least 25 $CULTUR.

How can I get more involved?

Once you’re in Discord, introduce yourself, join a Committee (there are 8) and talk in different channels to get to know folks. Some channels are completely open, some for NFT holders and all are open to $CULTUR token-holders. If there’s a project that you hold an NFT for join one of those channels and chat with other holders, and maybe even build a project!

How does voting work?

All major decisions of the DAO are voted on by token holders, no money can leave the commuinity treasury without explicit token approval.

What do I need to build a project?

Any NFT holder or $CULTUR holder can pitch a project - join the committee and a committee lead can shepherd the project through - so long as it is around one of the five core areas of focus for the DAO.

Why is it called $CULTUR?

Glad you asked! The name is inspired by the ‘utopian anarchist’ Iain M Banks “Culture” sci-fi novels. The books are set in a future where AI virtual beings and human beings live side by side in ‘The Culture’. Stuart Kelley describes it as “a post-scarcity, hedonistic society where you could create your own drugs in your own body, change gender at will and where freedom was the highest and noblest sign of a civilisation.”

The Culture novels are uplifting (and vicious) stories of how the rise of virtual beings that are smarter than human beings will neither elevate us to Godhood nor lower us to slavery (nor ... kill us!).

The shift to the metaverse and the rise of virtual beings and AI will change and disturb what it means to be human - it will be scary - but because we have an optimistic view of these changes, inspired by these novels, we want to be a part of bringing it to life.

So... in short, we liked ‘The Culture’ so much we thought we’d name a currency after it!

How do I get Tokens?

Buying $CULTUR

To buy $CULTUR you will need a crypto wallet (downloading Metamask is the most common) and some Ethereum (Coinbase is the most popular on-ramp to buy cryptocurrency) in that wallet. Many things in crypto work farrrrrrrr better on desktop so avoid using mobile if possible.

Buy Ethereum

Once you have the Ethereum in your wallet go to Uniswap.org and search for the $CULTUR token with the address:

Swap your Ethereum for at least 25 $CULTUR to be part of the voting community.

Once you have the $CULTUR in your wallet go to Metamask. Click ADD TOKENS on Metamask, then click CUSTOM TOKEN on Metamask, then paste this into the Token Contract Address field and CULTUR should autopopulate in token name. This will mean your wallet can show that you have the tokens you bought:

What is the Token Distribution?

To be a guild that operates in a progressively decentralized way we need mutual incentives that reward entrepeneurial artists and technologists — while bringing back resources to the central guild.

The supply of $CULTUR is 10,000,000 tokens, all minted.
That breaks into:
Team 2,500,000 tokens
Partners and Advisers 1,000,000 tokens
Community Treasury 6,500,000 tokens

$CULTUR Community treasury sits at theculturedao.eth gnosis

Snapshot proposals. This means that the community has control of what the community does.

The treasury is held in a multisig to be distributed at the community’s choosing through Snapshot votes. The multisig safe signers simply sign transaction once the community has voted on proposals and work to ensure safety of the community treasury.
